Description:

The newcomer to Ylläs will be quite overcome by the magnificent scenery and varying moods. Whether you are looking for a quiet holiday or days packed with action, you’ll find Ylläs has both and everything between. What is more, each of the four seasons of the year has something different to offer.

The Ylläs area consists of seven fells and two original lappish villages Ylläsjärvi and Äkäslompolo. At 718m, Ylläs fell itself is one of the highest fells in Lapland. You can reach the top by a gondola all year around. Äkäslompolo village is located on the northern side of the the Ylläs fell and Ylläsjärvi village on the southern side. Ylläs has a skiing tradition dating back to 1930’s. The first ski fans were making their way here even before the area was served by a road.

The Pallas-Ylläs National Park provides unforgettable experiences all year round. During the summer Ylläs is a great place for hiking, trekking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, river rafting, orienteering and traditional berry and mushroom picking. The skiing trails form to nature trails during the summer, offering tremendous outdoor sport facilities. Many of the activities can be enjoyed in the Pallas-Ylläs National Park, where the varying fell-nature is open for everybody. Ylläs is also a great place for the birdwatchers with many locations where even more rare bird species can be located.

Ylläs has many exceptional nature sights with in easy reach from the villages. You can even meet camels in Ylläs! Konijänkä animal park is open year around with their different animals from camels to the world’s smallest horse!

Winter in Ylläs is all encompassing: early winter offers wonderful opportunities for cross-country skiing, during Christmas an alley of candles lights up the villages, and the snowy world of winter twilight reflects light into the surrounding nature. As spring arrives in February the days become longer and you can see the snow glimmering in the sunlight. In Ylläs you can forget your everyday life: the hustle and bustle changes into a holiday in a peaceful atmosphere with relaxation or wild fun depending on your own choice! Noteworthy is that center is noticing, especially, the environmental issues when building this indoor sports arena. The aim is to minimize energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of Ylläs-Halli by using both solar panels and wind power.
